Belem is located right under the line of the Equator, wich means it is hot and humid all year long. Thus, air conditioning is an important aspect of our lives. This picture I took from my neighboorhood shows the impact that our dependence on electricity powered cooling sistems has on the architecture of buildings and, consequently, on the entire urban landscape, like in the video lecture about Singapore. You can see the concrete boxes made for supporting the air conditioner, and even some appliances installed in an improvised way. Also, you can see part of a supermarket in the low left corner of the picture, with it's air exhaustion towers for the proper keeping of the food temperature. In addition, you can observe the water towers, that are another type of infrastructure on wich we are dependent. [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14164871813521581.jpg
