I thought about this globally - a lot of my choices were made in light of what I know about the broader world and livability outside of just North America. - Culture - Job Opportunities - Political Stability - Safety - Housing **Why do we live where we live?** We live in a mid-sized town of about 125,000 called Kingston, Ontario - 2.5 hours northeast of Toronto, 2 hours southwest of Ottawa, 3 hours southwest of Montreal, 2 hours north of Syracuse ![Berry Picking locally][1] ![local conservation area][2] 5 reasons we live here: - My husband’s family is here - Low cost of living - Great place to raise children (family friendly, amenities) - Both have steady jobs - Proximity to other major cities **To what extent does your own place of residence fulfill your ideal livability criteria?** Culture: 57 Job Opportunities: 65 Political Stability: 85 Safety: 69 Housing: 70 *General livability score: 60* **What would you change?** I would definitely look into economic incentives for more opportunities to come to Kingston, and also ways to retain some of the talent that comes through the city, especially from the post-secondary institutions. **Why do we move?** Our top choice if we were to move right now would be Ottawa, Ontario. Qualities that we love about Ottawa: Access to arts and culture; Green space; Transportation; Friends, family, and community; Affordable healthcare Our second choice would be San Francisco, CA for the following reasons: Culture and vibe; Access to the outdoors; Climate; Opportunity to take on new projects; Community Our third choice would be Brookyn, NY, for the following reasons: Arts and culture; Family-friendly; Proximity to NYC; Intentional living; Opportunity to change job prospects [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14464124244783429.jpg [2]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14464124585561827.jpg
