***1-Which are your top livability criteria?*** ![Shanghai Pudong Area.Photography: Carlos Barreto][1] 1. Job Opportunities 2. Safety 3. Environment 4. Infrastructure 5. International connectivity Shanghai rankings in following websites: http://www.china.org.cn/top10/2015-03/11/content_35019289_8.htm http://www.china.org.cn/top10/2015-05/08/content_35512415_10.htm http://www.china.org.cn/top10/2015-06/02/content_35683820_10.htm http://www.china.org.cn/top10/2015-07/28/content_36158491_10.htm ***2- Why do we live where we live?*** 1. Photography: Carlos Barreto][4] As foreigner in China I been living in the cities of Changzhou, Suzhou and Shanghai; I’m residing in Shanghai City, as a young architect developing my career and having a good living here, I can say that is the best place to work and earn a good salary; compare to my homeland (Colombia) Shanghai is pretty safe in terms of Public Security and law enforcement. Shanghai possesses an excellent network of infrastructure in services and public transportation with a vast growing subway system and bus routes, which communicates to a variety of places to expend leisure time enjoining the modern and postmodern architecture environment of this metropolitan city, places where you can find different social and cultural activities, local and international. ***3-To what extend does your own place of residence fulfill your ideal livability criteria?*** 1. Job Opportunities: 90% 2. Safety :75% 3. Environment : 85% 4. Infrastructure : 95% 5. International connectivity: 95% **General livability score = 88%** I give 90% in the Job opportunities criteria, because in the recent months Chinese economy has been decreasing, producing a wave of fired employees and cuts in salaries. In Shanghai the Safety related with public security is high, but the traffic security is to low, drivers and pedestrians misbehavior putted this criteria in 75%. Shanghai Environment (with 85%) is good as a metropolitan city environment, but if you need to take a day off of the city you’ll need to go to another province, Shanghai doesn’t possess good outskirts or “rural area”. I gave 95% to infrastructure Shanghai has a good metro network transport you to the sub-urban areas of the city, a great road network and services system. Shanghai count with the international Pudong airport, connection to the national railway system and a maritime port, international connectivity of 95%. ***4- What would you change?*** I would change traffic security policies, civic consciousness education, and traffic law enforcement; in Shanghai (and China in general) drivers and pedestrian don’t have a good civic behavior; cars going the wrong way, parking areas in public space areas, pedestrian crossing in the middle of the road (not in the zebras), pedestrian walking in the bicycle areas, etc. Yes as a Shanghai Mayor I would: - Harden traffic policies: High price tickets to traffic infractions, driver’s license removal and a new traffic normativity. - Civic consciousness education: Lunch a campaign to educate the pedestrians about the well behavior and use of public space. - Traffic law enforcement: inject more resources from the city budget to the traffic police institutions, for train more traffic officer units and a better law enforcement. ![Car parked on the Bicycle section and illegal street vendor on the public space.Photography: Carlos Barreto][5]![Electric scooters drivers on the zebra.
