1. Environment 2. Education 3. Healthcare 4. Transportation 5. Recreation Possibilities 2) I currently reside in College Station, TX. I enjoy living here because: 1. Cost of living is relatively low 2. There are a lot of young and creative people living here (college town) 3. It is very diverse, which means that I get to meet people from all over the world 4. People are generally friendly and helpful 5. It is a relatively peaceful place, almost utopian ![enter image description here][1] http://shreenathaniel.blogspot.com/2011/01/college-stationbryan-vegetarian-guide.html 3) My rating: I would give College Station an 80/100 on the Livability Scale. Almost all of my criteria are met, but transportation and environment could use some serious improvement. General Livability Score: It would still be an 80/100 4) As I mentioned previously, the environment and transportation components of College Station leave something to be desired. As a pedestrian, I have a difficult time getting around because everything is so spread out and public transit is not always as reliable as I would like. One of my changes would include expanding the network of sidewalks throughout the city and improving the efficiency and overall reliability of public transit. The other factor that could use some serious work would be the environment. Developers in this area are not very concerned with the environmental impacts of their decisions. As a result, many of our landscapes are now fragmented or damaged beyond repair. Many trees have been cut down and there are more impervious surfaces than anything else. During the summer months, College Station experiences an urban island heat effect that drives people off the streets and into their homes. The lack of vegetation has also resulted in issues with storm water management. There are now more incidents of flooding than there were six years ago when I first moved here. Addressing these two factors (environment and transportation) is important because they can impact other factors and cause the city's livability score to decrease. 5) If I could move somewhere else, I would choose either San Antonio, TX; Portland, OR; or Seattle, WA. The last one is a bit of a stretch, but i have always admired Seattle. Reasons - San Antonio: 1. Culturally diverse 2. Holds historic significance 3. Very festive 4. The food is to die for 5. Public transit appears to be much more reliable Portland: 1. Much more environmentally friendly than where I currently live 2. It is near mountains 3. Trees and other natural elements appear to be vibrant 4. Portland Botanical Gardens 5. Great place to be an environmental educator Seattle: 1. Food forests 2. Seattle Children's PlayGarden (one of my absolute favorite things about Seattle) 3. Favorable weather 4. Rain! 5. Outdoor markets As a person who has lived in Texas all his life, the possibility of moving would be a dream come true. However, if such plans did not pan out, then San Antonio, TX would be the place for me. [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14502159211496579.jpg [2]: http:// [3]: http:// [4]: http://
