I live in Providence, Rhode Island USA primarily becuase of the integrated artist *community*. The community is a web of support for each other's creative interests and is the underlying structure for a strong culture. Providence is *diverse* in cultural heritage providing a big city feel to a very manageable amount of people. The diversity provides opportunity for people to share and learn and live amongst each other; generally with enough *affordable space and housing* to go around. There are many notable universities here. The broad bredth of *educational possibility* stands for seeking your highest potential and personal discovery, though there are serious issues with the cost and availability of education. Providence hosts different scale urban parks & cycling paths through estuarine environemnts. Rhode Island is a small state with close proximity to the ocean, which broadly offers coastal access and recreation to most residents with in a half-hour or less. Being connected to ecological recreation areas identifies the nature of an industrial urban setting on the ocean with residents who are bound to the place they live in. One of the ways we are connected to "place" is through access to farm raised food. Vegetables, diary, and ocean raised oysters and seafood etc. are widely available at farmer's markets. Food stamps are redeemable at these markets for a discounted cost through incentive programs. 3. Providence fulfills approx. **76** of 100 based on my livability criteria. Though the general livability rating I would give Providence looking at the entire survey list is lower, around 65. Living here is not equal for everyone. How do you factor a consideration of the political story behind each of these criteria? D. Education (85 of 100) B. Culture (95 of 100) E. Environment (100 of 100) M. Recreation Possibilities (100 of 100) C. Economy (0 of 100) 4. I would focus my energy on addressing economic issues. Jobs are hard to find here, both at the service industry level as well as the professional level. Some substantial incentives to keep the educated class in Providence would greatly help build a community where professional services can be exchanged. Hopefully in that exchange we'd be able to not just satisfy minimum livability requirements but apply our creative class to interpret our options for livability with innovation. 5.
