Top livability criteria (most important at top of list): 1. Job opportunities 2. Culture 3. Economy 4. International connectivity 5. Safety **Question 2 – Why do we live where we live?** Place I live: Melbourne (city), Victoria (state), Australia - Top 5 reasons why I live here: 1. Location – I used to live about 30-40 minutes further out from the city than I do now. This meant that I lived further away from job opportunities, friends, recreation etc. While I still live on the outskirts of the city, I am far closer in than I was previously. I am also close to a major shopping centre as well as smaller specialty stores, a variety of afternoon/nightlife venues, restaurants, gyms, recreation centres, medical centres and various supermarkets. 2. Infrastructure – Although where I grew up had good infrastructure and was well developed, I only had access to one major freeway and highway, whereas now I have access to many more as well as many more major roads, which has increased my access to a variety of things including jobs, recreation, friends and culture. 3. Job opportunities – As stated above, where I live now is surrounded my many major roads and is close to a number of freeways, as well as brings me closer to the city. This has greatly increased the variety and number of job opportunities that I now have access to. 4. Culture – I live close to a variety of cultural hubs in nearby suburbs, including the city. This has had a great and positive impact on my day-to day life as well my social life and sense of wellbeing. 5. Recreation possibilities – I have access to many different gyms, a variety of areas for skateboarding, bouldering gyms, am closer to beaches and areas for scuba diving, bike trails, yoga and meditation centres, public recreation centres, restaurants and bars, shopping strips and centres, as well as services such as police stations, fire stations and train stations. ![Major intersection 2 blocks from my house][1] ![Local shopping centre][2] ![Major road with shopping, cafes, bars][3] ![One of the local 24/7 gyms (the one I go to)][4] ***Please note:** There were four images that I had trouble uploading. The links for these are in the references list and are marked with @. **Question 3 - To what extend does your own place of residence fulfil your ideal livability criteria?** 1. Job opportunities – 80/100 2. Culture – 90/100 3. Economy – 70/100 4. International connectivity – 80/100 5. Safety – 80/100 Therefore, using these scores to create an average, the general livability score for the greater city in which I live would be 80/100. **Question 4 – What would you change?** If I were mayor, the first thing I would be likely to change would be safety. While I have not personally had any safety issues where I live and I have rated the safety of the area highly, there is room for improvement. The area has a decent number of residential burglaries, some of our neighbours have had issues with the police, people I know have been victims of violent incidents in local public areas and some of the intersections could be safer for pedestrians, drivers and cyclists. **Question 5 – Why do we move?** Chicago, USA 1. Housing 2. Culture 3. Job Opportunities 4. Recreation Possibilities 5. Environment Dublin, Ireland 1. Environment 2. Culture 3. Climate 4. Safety 5. Political stability Dubai, UAE 1. Infrastructure 2. Culture 3. Recreation possibilities 4. Safety 5. Economy **References/Links (for images)** Albert Street/Bell Street Intersection https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-37.7469883,145.0217878,3a,75y,179.7h,72.14t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sAKFOcbL6s2-TvCFD3Nzbew!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 @ Bird’s Eye view of Preston https://www.google.com.au/maps/place/Albert+St,+Preston+VIC+3072/@-37.7528589,145.015676,408m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x6ad6444b363ef37f:0x9def92bfacf09c5b @ Eastern Freeway https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e6/Eastern_Freeway_Belford_St.jpg High Street, Thornbury https://b.domainstatic.com.au/w800-h600-9690908_1_pi_150407_070818 @ Hoddle Street http://www.theage.com.au/content/dam/images/2/n/4/a/h/image.related.articleLeadwide.620x349.2n42s.png/1369501200000.jpg Northland Shopping Centre http://www.smh.com.au/content/dam/images/1/t/h/6/6/image.related.articleLeadwide.620x349.1th42.png/1329667200000.jpg Plus Fitness 42/7 Gym https://www.google.com.au/maps/place/Plus+Fitness+24%2F7/@-37.7461308,145.0152298,3a,75y,90t/data=!3m8!1e2!3m6!1s-JSEleejkYd4%2FVNDLO-A4sMI%2FAAAAAAAAACc%2Fhsqlyb3IL-c!2e4!3e12!6s%2F%2Flh5.googleusercontent.com%2F-JSEleejkYd4%2FVNDLO-A4sMI%2FAAAAAAAAACc%2Fhsqlyb3IL-c%2Fs152-k-no%2F!7i1024!8i577!4m2!3m1!1s0x6ad6445009f1e77b:0x777967065d36aa61!6m1!1e1 @ The Lactic Factory Bouldering Gym https://lealandet.files.wordpress.com/2015/10/img_1284.jpg [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14607843581294619.jpg [2]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14607843904027032.jpg [3]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14607844106773052.jpg [4]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14607845018593297.jpg
