My subjective importance for livability of a city: 1. Job Opportunity 2. Culture 3. Climate 4. Housing 5. Recreation Possibilities **2. Why do we live where we live?** I live in Chur. This is a small City (30 000 inhabitants) in the Swiss Alps. I moved here with my family because of my job. So job is the **first** reason. Climate is the **second** reason. Chur is a very sunny town. With its Italien charm and architecture. Education is important, because of my family, so this is the **third**. Schools should be close. Nature and recreation are important. Garden and parks. this goes for me together with ... **Housing is last but not least**. The flats are affordable. Here are some images: ![View from my window to my garden with a large ficus][1]View from my window to my garden with a large ficus (southern feeling) ![Half an hour to walk after having taken the cable railway just in front of my house.][2] Half an hour to walk after having taken the cable railway just in front of my house. ![Just 5 minutes on foot from my office: the river Rhine with a military bridge.][3] Just 5 minutes on foot from my office: the river Rhine with a military bridge. ![This is the city of Chur, the heart of the town. To what extend does your own place of residence fulfill your ideal livability criteria?** It’s something like 65%. It is nice here, but there is a braindrain in this region. Schools are ok, but there is a grat disadvantage: you can never go back to Zurich because your children learn Italian, not French (as in all other German speacking ares in Sitzerland) for a second language! The town is squeezed bethween the motorway and the steep mountains. There is no green inside the town. Ther is nothing but sport for the kids. If you don't like sport, you are totally wrong in Chur. **4. What would you change?** There is no feeling for lifestyle or architecture. There are no parks, trees are removed, green lifestyle is "from devil". Cars are everywhere. Last trains from cities run early in the evening. Here, there is no culture, no innovation. **5. Why do we move?** This actually is back to Zurich, Zurich and Zurich again. Or maybe Winterthur, Lucerne or Geneva. Berne is also good. Well, when we moved from Zurich to Chur we didn’t know how we will feel here. Switzerland has small regions and to live and speak with a Zurich accent in Chur/Grisons is not easy. The Grisons are like one familly. To get work in Grisos is almost impossible, because there is only few work. Everyone here has an uncle who wants to work. And "blood is thiker than water"!
