Education Political Stability Sanitation Standards Safety Environment 2.Why do we live where we live? Where I live: Washington, DC, USA ![Dupont Circle (image found online)][1] Reason 1: Job Opportunities I live there because I got a job offer from a firm that I really want to work for, so I relocated from the city of Philadelphia where I went to college to Washington. That is the biggest reason why I live there. Reason 2: Transportation Washington has a very convenient public transportation system. There are 6 metro lines that can get through most places in the DC metro area. I live close to a metro station and it helps me get to work very easily and quickly. ![The Capital (image found online)][2] Reason 3: Education Washington has a large amount of politicians, lawyers and people engaging in public services. They are well-educated and it is fun to get their perspectives on things. There are two major universities in town – Georgetown University and George Washington University, although they are not the top ranked universities in America. ![Adams Morgan (image found online)][3] Reason 4: Sanitation Standards Washington is very clean and the city is organized. Unlike New York (one of my favorite American cities), it does not have visible trash on the street. However, I have seen rats sweeping the dark corners of the streets of DC. Reason 5: Climate Washington has very nice weather and climate. It is not as cold as New York or Philadelphia in the winter and the weather is relatively moderate in the summer. 3.To what extend does your own place of residence fulfill your ideal livability criteria? Education: 70 - I really wish that the universities in DC could be better in terms of research, infrastructure and student-faculty engagement. Political Stability: 90 - There is a large concentration of politicians from all over the world. Sanitation Standards: 90 - I am not too familiar but on the surface it seems good. Safety: 85 - Other than homeless people shouting to pedestrians on the street, I do not feel unsafe. Environment: 90 - Washington is very careful in keeping the urban green and the National Mall area has a great natural view. General livability score: 80 4.What would you change? If I were the mayor of DC, I would try to help the homeless people on the street – give them shelter, food and dedicate resources to help them with their mental issues. 5.Why do we move? The five qualities of the places I want to move might not be concentrated at a single city. In fact, each city has its own unique advantage through which it distinguishes itself from all the other cities in the world. I personally have traveled or lived in two of the three listed cities. New York City: it is a metropolis. There are so many people from different parts of the world. It is a city full of opportunities and exciting activities and a great place to train my skills. One biggest attraction of New York City is its great universities such as Columbia University and New York University. These higher education opportunities keep the city full of well-educated, interesting young people. Shanghai: my family is there. The public transportation is very clean and convenient – there are 13 metro lines and they run on time and keep the middle class maintain their efficiency. Tokyo: I want to practice speaking Japanese as I studied it since high school. I am into Japanese culture and Tokyo is the best place to be as it has both the traditional and the modern faces of Japan.
