2. I chose to live in Verdun (a borough of Montreal) for 1) its proximity to Montreal downtown with its offices and places of employment and education; 2) its proximity to subway stations; 3) its proximity to the river and parks; 4) the commercial street which is agreable to walk on with its numerous shops and do not require to take the car; 5) its cycling paths, swimming pools, and children parks which make the town agreable for a life with kids. ![Verdun from the sky][1] 3. On a scale from 1-100 rate, my place of residence fulfills my ideal livability criteria for about 60. The general livability score for Montreal would be 60. Mostly because of the climate and the physical aspects of the city which has not been developed in an esthetic manner and does not take advantage of its beautiful potential. 4. What would I change if I were the mayor? I would take care of improving the beauty and the architecture of the town. I am especially attached to esthetism and am disturbed when new buildings are just built for their functionality. Two big hospitals have been built for billions of dollars and I find that they do not add to the physical attractivity of the town. Coming from Europe, I guess I am partly influenced by the beauty of old buildings and miss it here. 5. The three places that I would select to move in case I decided to change place of residence. Those would be: 1) Geneva, Switzerland; 2) Melbourne, Australia; 3) La Rochelle, France. I would choose these places for 1) their climate (after living 15 years in Montreal...); their natural environment (either near mountains or the sea); 3) the beauty of the cities (also I can't tell for Melbourne); 4) the job and education opportunities (also I can't tell for La Rochelle); 5) their safety.
