1. Safety 2. Education 3. Economy 4. Environment 5. Infraestructure **2. Why do we live where we live?** I live in Joinville, south of Brazil, and this is the biggest city of my state Santa Catarina. I live here since I was born and I believe that the 5 main reasons that makes me stay here are: **Economy:** Joinville is the second best city to live in Brazil, according to the magazine ISTOĆ and the site www.melhorescidadesdobrasil.com.br, mainly because here is the third industrial center of the southern region and the city is responsible for about 20% of Santa Catarina exports. As I already cited, Joinville concentrates most of economic activity in industry. ![Industries][1] **Job opportunities:** mainly because of the industry, the city offer a lot of job opportunities in several areas, so many people come from others cities to work in big companies. **Environment:** although it's a industrial city, in general we have a good quality of the environmet, because, with the exception of two industries that are located in the city center (and they are about to leave and go to the industry sector of the city) and inevitably contributes to the pollution of the environment, it's a city with a lot of trees, the big part of the streets are good to walk because we have shadow and is cooler. We have good plazas throughout the city, the only bad thing about it is that it's not safe to be there at night, but it's a question that is part of the education of the people. ![Conselheiro Arp Street, Joinville][2] ![Hermann Lepper Avenue, Joinville][3] **Education:** Joinville has a good level of public education, good grades in IDEB (Basic Education Development Index) and good teachers that represent the city in several awards of education. Compared with other cities the public schools have a good infraestructure, but it's still a question to be improved. **Sanitation Standards:** Joinville is featured in sanitation policy, and, with municipal sanitation plan, is among the few cities that fulfill federal law, even considering only the south, which is the region that is concerned with the subject in the country. **3. To what extend does your own place of residence fulfill your ideal livability criteria?** 1. Safety: 50/100 2. Educaton: 70/100 3. Economy: 80/100 4. Environment: 60/100 5. Infraestructure: 60/100 General livability score of Joinville: 60/100 **4. What would you change?** Certainly I would invest and improve the safety. The city is reference as a good place to live but recently we have heard a lot about violence in the outer boroughs and municipal police do not have enough preparation to handle it. **5. Why do we move?** Curitiba / Brazil: infraestructure > transportation > environment > economy > safety Vienna / Austria: culture > education > safety > environment > infraestructure Auckland / New Zealand: culture > safety > infraestructure > education > economy [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14567570602001786.jpg [2]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14567572829190532.jpg [3]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/1456757309937125.jpg
