1- Job Opportunity 2- Economy 3- Infrastructure 4- International Connectivity 5- Transportation Why do I live where I live? - I live in Mexico City, and in Mexico, the country’s concentration to where people are more likely to move, falls at the moment in only three cities, Monterrey, Guadalajara and Mexico City. Although more cities are starting to grow such as Queretaro, Puebla and Merida. The growth of these cities is due to the three main cities starting to be overwhelmed by the amount of people that come to them in search for a better opportunity. The main 5 reasons I live where I live are: 1- Job Opportunities, at present in Mexico City the main companies, international and local, have their HQ. Also the city is constantly growing which for me, as a civil engineer, means a lot of opportunities where I could work. Mostly what happens is that they hire you, and then they could send you to other parts of the country, but the first step is always in the city. Even compared to the other two big cities the capital has a mayor impact. 2- Economy, the capital is the main sustain economically speaking for the country. The main international companies reside in the city. Here is where the international investment has it nucleus. Also the main national companies are in the city. Although one of the big incomes Mexico has falls in tourism, most of the money comes directly from the capital. 3- Infrastructure, as I said before I’m a civil engineer, and because of the amount of people that come in the city every day, we have to constantly be building new ways to get the people around the city. 4- International Connectivity, as said before, Mexico City has a mayor impact with the international world, this also means you have a better opportunity to get send to work in another country. 5- Transportation, there would be a time where you will need to use public transportation, it is very important that you are able to get to every part of the city using it. Livability criteria: - 42, although the city has some great things, at the moment there are more bad than good. There’s a lot going in the country and unfortunately all the problems come in the city. What would I change? - There are a lot of things I would change for the city to become more livable, but this changes would also require changes in the country. So I will focus only in some changes I could make to have a more livable city. 1 – Political stability, I would make a big change here because, unfortunately there the main reason that the country is the way it is at the moment. Changing all the corrupt politics would mean that we would have more money to do some bigger changes. 2 – Education, the education in the city is very divided, and although we have one of the best universities in the continent (UNAM) we cannot wait until they are in university to have a good education. I would change education since the beginning (kinder garden), with the money that I would have (after changing the political stability) I would invest in better schools, public, and make a teachers salary much better, this would also mean making the teachers a lot better that they are by maintaining a strict overview of their teaching and knowledge. 3 - Safety, even thaw the capital isn’t as bad as other parts of the country, I would make it even safer. This means, for starters, making the police more reliable. There cannot be safety if the ones supposed to protect you are the ones that break the rules just because they have “power”.
