1. Job opportunities 2. Culture 3. Housing 4. Environment 5. Infrastructure **2. Why do we live where we live?** I live in Manchester, UK. The five reasons for me to live here are: 1. Job opportunities 2. Vibrant social and cultural life 3. Education 4. Close to areas for outdoor activities 5. Focus on innovation **3. To what extend does your own place of residence fulfill your ideal livability criteria?** On a scale from 1-100 rate to what extend your place of residence fulfills your ideal livability criteria (i.e. the top-5 criteria you selected in Question 1). 1. Job opportunities: 85 2. Culture: 75 3. Housing: 60 4. Environment: 50 5. Infrastructure: 60 General livability score: 70 **4. What would you change?** Imagine that you were the mayor of your place of residence. Which would be the first measure you would take to improve livability? Better management of urban traffic. In my opinion urban traffic should undergo a radical rethinking, in terms of both private and public transport. This would translate into minimizing unnecessary waste of time and energy related to an inefficient transportation paradigm. Another aspect of city livability that would be positively affected by a better traffic management system / traffic paradigm is noise pollution, of which traffic is a major contributor. An important step towards an improved transportation system has been already made through the construction of the Metrolink, a light rail system that operates in part of Greater Manchester. Yet, much remains to be done with regard to private and public road transport. **5. Why do we move?** In this last part of the exercise we want you to name three places that you would select to move in case you decided to change place of residence. In addition, provide us with 5 qualities of these places that played important role during your decision process. Order them with the most important at the top of your list. 1. *San Francisco* (Focus on innovation, Culture, Job Opportunities, Climate, Education, Recreational possibilities) 2. *Melbourne* (Culture, Housing, Climate, Recreational possibilities, Outdoors activities) 3. *Singapore* (Housing and architecture, International Connectivity, Focus on innovation, citizens engagement in the betterment of their city). ---------- **Relevant pictures of Manchester (UK) and surroundings** ![*The MIB* (Manchester Institute of Biotechnology, former Manchester Interdisciplinary Biocentre) - Manchester offer good job opportunities mainly in fields related to research and development, both in academia and industry.][1] [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/1456163248956151.jpg *The MIB* (Manchester Institute of Biotechnology, former Manchester Interdisciplinary Biocentre) - Manchester offer good job opportunities mainly in fields related to research and development, both in academia and industry. ![*Manchester School of Art* (part of Manchester Metropolitan University) - Manchester is rich in culture and educational offer.][2] [2]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/1456163300284593.jpg *Manchester School of Art* (part of Manchester Metropolitan University) - Manchester is rich in culture and educational offer. ![*The Co-operative*.
