Given that I live in a nearby urban outskirt (near Carnaxide, about 5 km from central Lisbon), this layout greatly influences my transportation choices and livability. The following picture represents the fastest transportation option within the public system (about an hour with no traffic ocurrences, which is uncommon), with the use of two bus lines and a subway line, naturally going through the city's centre but coming back across in another district towards my workplace. ![Faster public transportation commute][1] The second viable option includes the use of three different bus lines, in order to allow for longitudinal movement across the city (without entering the city's centre), with an increase of about 5 minutes. ![Longitudinal public transportation commute][2] The option I end up taking is justifiable mainly given the time constraints and because it provides an increased degree of freedom of personal transportation. I take my car in through the route displayed in the following picture, in about 15 to 30 minutes, according to traffic. ![Car commute][3] Although driving daily does entail a certain increase in stress and is more expensive than using the public transportation system, it provides increased freedom of movement and time savings, allowing for deeper personal enjoyment and livability.
