Route two is a last resort because: 1. The buses run infrequently. 2. It is hazardous, because of the need to walk in the road, to reach the bus stop. 3. Walking beside automobile traffic on a hot day, without shade, is unpleasant. 4. It is inconvenient, as I have to return home by a set time to telecommute to my second job. I live in a semi-rural location, with a lack of sidewalks and safe bicycle routes. The route to the bus stop lacks any shade, involves a hilly route and requires using a freeway over-crossing bridge, which, while light controlled, is still hazardous due to impatient drivers trying to exit or access the freeway. I think I would bike to the city if there were safe routes, it would be a chance to enjoy the countryside. Driving is convenient and quick. I listen to music, but the drive is on the freeway, so there is little new to see. I tend to travel early in order to avoid traffic, this offers some impressive views of the sun rising from behind the mist cloaked hills and occasionally some spectacular cloud formations. At this time, I have to say that the route one drive is more fun and ensures I arrive at work in a stress free and cheerful frame of mind. If there was a bus stop closer to my home I might reconsider, particularly if the service ran more than once an hour on weekdays.
