![enter image description here][1] ![enter image description here][2] Usually I go to university by train. **Travel Time:** Of course, we can all see that the option of taking the car is much faster, but that’s only when there is little traffic on the roads. Depending on what hour of the day my class starts, this can be a much faster alternative. But during peak hours there are a lot of traffic jams on my route and then the train is a much more reliable alternative. **Walking Distance:** The walking distances don’t differ all that much in my opinion. I do most of my transport within my own city by foot anyway, so this is peanuts compared to the distances I walk on some other days. I do live a life where I sit down a lot, so I see a little more walking as a welcome exercise. **Traffic:** As I explained before, traffic jams can increase the travel time a lot and fast! So during peak hours the trains is usually a much more reliable alternative. Even though sometimes still delays can set me back some important minutes to catch my bus afterwards. When I take the train I do however often take one that gives me some extra time to catch the bus so I won’t be late. The bus on the other hand can get very crowded in the sense that you sometimes almost have to fight to get on it. Being able to sit in the bus is almost never the case. **Social aspects:** The social aspects are clear I think. When taking the train and bus you get much more interactions with other people. You can sit back and relax, read a book, listen to music, even watch a movie on your laptop. Driving a car, the only thing you can concentrate on is the driving. Also, I find driving a car very stressfull, so I try to avoid that as much as possible. **Environment:** Trains and buses are much more environmentally friendly of course and that’s why I try to always take public transport as much as possible. It’s only when I go somewhere without a train station or with an extremely bad bus connection including very long walks, that I am tempted to take the car. **Price:** As I am a student, I get discounts on public transport. A single ride on train and bus costs me 2.4 euro. The car is of course much more expensive as gas prices are quite high. Unfortunately, this changes when you aren’t a student anymore and you have to pay full price. From then on, whenever you are travelling with two people or more, the car becomes the cheaper alternative… They really should fix that! **Overall Happiness:** I prefer going by public transport, not only because I feel guilt every time I take a polluting car when there is an alternative, but also because this gives me less stress. I just have to sit back and wait. As for taking a car I have to concentrate hard and long. I prefer arriving at my destination fresh and relaxed.
