1. culture 2. safety 3. job opportunities 4. climate 5. housing Where I live: Bunbury, Western Australia Why do I live here: 1. job opportunities (specifically my husband was offered a job here) 2. housing (cheap in comparison to our home city of Perth and important when we moved as I was studying) 3. environment (close to the beach and the forests, food and wine of the Margaret River region) 4. climate (not super hot in summer - mostly) 5. infrastructure (Bunbury is the largest regional centre so you don't have to travel for services) *I've not included safety because that is a given for me in Australia ![Bunbury][1] How well does Bunbury meet my livability criteria: 1. safety 95 2. culture 40 3. job opportunity 40 4. climate 85 5. housing 85 Total = 69 total What I would change: I would describe Bunbury as valuing a mono-culture, that is one based on old-fashioned Australian values that privilege the white, male, heterosexual experience over any other – and in some cases actively shunning difference. Bunbury needs an injection of creativity and alternative cultural forms and ways to engage its constituents. I propose introducing a series of events and festivals that showcase alternative communities of the region, for example a night-time Hawker style food market to be held in summer. In doing so barriers of difference will be destabilised, locals will have the opportunity to be engaged and educated and marginalised communities developed. Where I would move: 1. Melbourne – culture / climate / education / job opportunities / housing 2. Singapore – culture / safety / transportation / economy / education 3. San Francisco – culture / climate / education / international connectivity / environment [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14448001801251101.jpg
