However, taxi fare is far too high to justify daily commute and I don't always have the car at my disposal. My reason for preferring the car however is mainly because the distance between my house and the MRT station is very awkward, especially in relation to the Singapore weather. It is walkable, but usually it's too hot and there are no covered walkways for the walk to be comfortable/enjoyable. I often spend more time walking to the station than on the train. I would like to cycle or skate to the station, but not only are there no bicycle parking spaces near the station, the walkway to the station is too narrow and bumpy to comfortable cycle or skate. On a whole, I mostly travel by MRT (except from Home to the Yoga Studio, in which case I'll commute by bus). It's by far the fastest and most convenient because: - Waiting time is short (maximum of 3-5min) - Train is clean (cleaner than the buses at least) and unless it's rush hour, I usually have a place to sit I'm not a big fan of taking buses in Singapore for the following reasons: - They're not very clean compared to the trains - They don't announce the stops, so if it's your first time anywhere, you will have to count the stops yourself. Furthermore, the bus drivers do not stop at every stop - Waiting time is atrocious (by Singapore standards). On a good day the wait could be 5 minutes, but usually the waiting time is 10-15 minutes, on bad days it could go up to 20+ minutes. What's worse is that sometimes the bus drivers fail to stop at certain stops, meaning you'll have to wait for the next bus. As you can see from the map, the places I frequent are not actually very far apart, all of them are within a maximum of 6-7km. In fact with the exception of going to class, I can actually walk to most of the places. And I would like to except, and this is especially true for where I live, the pedestrian walkways just cut off abruptly, leaving you with no way to walk to your destination unless you would like to brave the highway. So although the gym and office are but 2-3km away from my house, I can't actually walk there. Cycling is not an option as well as it's very stressful and scary to cycle next to cars since there are no bicycle lanes in Singapore. To summarize: - I'm happiest taking the train, it's clean, fast and convenient. - I would be happy to walk (most routes are quite scenic), if a walkable path is made possible. I do try to walk whenever possible. But more covered walkways would be appreciated as it is often scorching hot or raining. - My least favourite mode of transport is the bus because it induces a lot of mental stress. - Driving is the most convenient option in terms of distance, traffic and cost (Taxis not withstanding)
