![Walk vs drive][1] I usually drive to work in the winter. I was walking to work in the summer until I was hit by a car on my way to work (clearly the route chosen was not that walk-able). The deterrent to walking or biking is the highway between my work and home that is a main route for semi trucks and there is no walkway over the highway to protect people not in vehicles. Walking in the winter is unpleasant as the daylight hours are very short and temperatures can dip to -30C plus windchill. Biking would not cut the time down substantially as one would have to take an indirect route to avoid sharing a main road. I can take routes through a park and neighbourhood when walking to work. There are usually joggers and dog walkers to greet in the morning - it's pretty quiet in the afternoon. I enjoy walking much more than biking so the extra time is not a factor. Driving is short and the traffic light as I travel during off hours. There are rarely hold ups. I like driving but it is not a social activity. Because the trip is so short though, I can walk through our neighbourhood on footpaths that were recently developed. [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14482322531084974.png
