THOU , polls and surveys using google docs are very common which is kinda of crowd sourcing through internet . **Think and comment on the following example: Habitats of a certain neighborhood don’t feel safe when they walk in their neighborhood in the evening and during the night. You are working for the local government and want to solve this problem through improvement of the public spaces. How would you start-up a Citizen Design Science project? *** HOW CAN A NON-EXPERT at design BE OF ANY HELP : RESIDENT , public ETC **Local Knowledge :** -accurate knowledge on such unsafe neighborhood can be gathered through google docs surveys etc Valuable insights on the design , mainly focusing : * Site Legibility * VISIBILITY & SIGHTLINES * LIGHTING • Poor lighting • Confusing layout • Physical and aural isolation • Poor visibility • No access to help • Areas of concealment • Poor maintenance • Vandalism • Presence of “undesirables” - such information can be posted anonymous etc **Informal and formal Surveillance** • the park or areas of the park in the line of sight of nearby houses, apartments, stores or activity areas to assure visibility from citizens . • encourage surveillance by local residents and merchants BOTH MANUAL AND USE OF CCTV CAMERA’S . • Panic buttons in public places and SoS mobile application Panic buttons : to trigger alert alarm to resident and police in case of emergency situation . SoS mobile application can trigger alerts and incident reporting with geo location to provide effective response during an emergency situation. The alerts could not just be routed to the Police Control Room but also to certain selected numbers from the phone book. **MOBILE APPS** ![enter image description here][1] **-COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER NETWORK PLATFORMS :** Social media and mobile enabled platform for community / community groups to collaborate with police for local safety and security issues **CREATING POSITIVE VIBE :** RESIDENTS OF THE AREA CAN CREATE POSTER ETC Example : > **“ FEAR NOT RESIDENTS OF _______ TO RESUCE “** * adding semi-commercial uses such as a food and beverage kiosks and a ticket stand. -Supporting expansion of local markets and supporting street vendors. DESIGN POINT OF VIEW CONSIDERING THE RESIDENT POTENTIAL * OPENING the park’s constricted entrances * removing hedges along its perimeter *so that people could more easily view the interior from the sidewalk* DESIGNING POPULAR SPORTS COURTS LIKE BASKETBALL , VOLLEYBALL COURTS ,WITH FLOODLIGHTS THEREBY ENSURING HUMAN ACTIVITY , AND A SAFER FEELING . ![enter image description here][2] [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/1450221567253339.jpg [2]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14502215903272846.jpg
