1. Environment 2. Housing 3. Transportation 4. Infrastructure 5. Safety **Why do I live where I live** I currently live in Tokyo, Japan. I live here mainly because of the following reasons (in order of importance): 1. Job/study opportunities 2. Cultural and entertainment offer 3. Transportation 4. Safety 5. Environment ![Kunitachi City, Tokyo. Quiet residential neighborhood with enough greenery, commercial offer and train station within walking distance][1] **Fulfilment of livability criteria** According to the chosen livability criteria, Tokyo presents, according to my personal judgment, the following scores: Environment 70% Housing 65% Transportation 90% Infrastructure 80% Safety 100% General livability score 85% **What I would change** Greenery: In Tokyo there are a few large parks (e.g. Ueno, Yoyogi) but local middle- and small-size parks are virtually abstent. Around buddhist temples and shinto shrines trees and greenery are to be found, but such spaces cannot be used as parks for recreation. In view of the anticipated shrinkage of Tokyo’s Metropolitan Area in the coming decades, more green open spaces could be implemented. Biking: Tokyoites use often their bikes, especially for short trips. Nonetheless, there are almost no dedicated bike lanes, thus sidewalks are shared with pedestrians, slowing considerably the speed of bicycle users. Whenever possible bike lanes could be implemented. **Why do I move** If I were to move, independently from job or family burdens, I would pick up the following places: Berlin: 1. Social welfare 2. Cost of living 3. Green and open space 4. Cultural offer 5. Convenient European location Sydney: 1. Work/life balance 2. Vicinity to nature 3. Work opportunities 4. Social welfare 5. Infrastructure Singapore: 1. Infrastructure 2. Economic development 3. Climate 4. Cultural/recreational offer 5. Vicinity to nature [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14443707286080487.jpg
