Think and comment on the following example: Habitats of a certain neighbourhood don’t feel safe when they walk in their neighbourhood in the evening and during the night. You are working for the local government and want to solve this problem through improvement of the public spaces. How would you start-up a Citizen Design Science project? Step 1: Ask people living in the neighbourhood to take notes of their feelings having to do with experiencing the public space during their daily errands (going to work/school, taking kinds to the kindergarten, trip from home to the grocery store, walking through the local park at day/at night and so on). Step 2: Collect all the info, analyse it, and spatialise it using GIS software or a similar tool. Make sure to also collect information about the people involved, as ethnic or gender or other aspects might be relevant for perceived safety / lack of safety. Overlaps are highly relevant too for locating the hot spots for lack of safety. Step 3: Propose a plan for improving the safety of the public space and gradually implement measures. Step 4: Monitor the impact of the implemented measures via similar methods.
