Every weekday I go from my house to school, which is about 2.1 miles (3.4 km). Typically, I drive from my house the whole way to school. However, I could walk 0.3 miles (0.5 km) and then take the bus the remaining distance 1.8 miles (2.9 km). Alternatively, I could also walk 0.5 miles (0.8 km) from my house to a different bus stop, and then take the bus the remaining 1.8 miles (2.9 km). I prefer to drive to school as it leaves me the most flexible in regards to plans after classes and in case I need to get somewhere in a hurry, as opposed to waiting for the bus, which runs on its own schedule, not mine. I also would prefer not to walk as much as possible, as I have a long cumulative distance to walk to get between classes.
