The most important stocks and flows entering, staying in,and later leaving Bogotá include people, food, and water. In the case of people,a clear flow is evident as violence forced millions off the countryside into Bogota searching a better life in hopes of later returning to their land;this movement of people could benefit Bogota in the future if the migrants are given opportunities to thrive and contribute in the local economy. Meanwhile, in the case of food,a clear flow is evident as food is sourced both nationally/internationally, consumed in the city, and later “released” as nutrients/waste;programs to grow more food near the city should help lowerCO2 emissions and prices.Additionally in the case of water, water enters the city through the BogotaRiver and as rainfal, it later gets used for personal/industrial consumption, and is finally released as wastewater back into the BogotaRiver;a new water treatment plant will allow for a more efficient use of this resource.Lastly, the NationalLibrary is a prime example of a stock of information however impactful on the cultural and knowledge growth of the city;VirtualLibrary programs could further open the library of information to the public while housing information and knowledge. If these stocks and flows are used wisley, they could represent great opportunity.
