Singapore is a small city-state that is blessed with no natural resources; no oil, no mountains, no stones gems or anything of commercial value. This hence made our country to focus a lot on trades, on imports and exports. The only resource we have is humans and knowledge, and as seen in the picture, there are countless ideas mashed into one; social concerns, welfare concerns, environmental concerns are all addressed. The building on the left (or even in the background) accomodates approx. 80% of our population in these tall high-rise buildings funded and built by our government, known as HDBs. We employ construction methods and materials from the west, employ labour from the east, implement a self-sustaining building template and model with centuries and future generation in mind. Being a trade city, countless materials such as window steel grills could be from China, India or Vietnam, the concrete and steel could be predominantly from China, the interior fittings like sanitary fixtures could be from Italy or Spain, and furniture like carpets could be from Persia or Middle East.
