FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 3: "Factors of Livability"
Uploaded on 2020-08-30 by Olivia Mihale
My top 5 most livable cities are: Zurich, Delft, Copenhagen, Singapore and Vienna. My livability factors are: 1.Access to Education and Culture, 2.Infrastructure and Accessibility, 3.Pollution Levels and Green Spaces, 4.Healthcare and 5.Economic Stability. Manchester is a medium-sized city, just perfect for the young. In terms of education, it is home to two universities and a lot of public/private schools. It has a wonderful and tight-knit campus, with a sizable amount of public spaces and green areas for students to interact, as well as study. Moreover, Manchester has several museums and its architectural heritage is mostly intact. The healthcare system is thriving, NHS offers free access to medical care. The economy is currently growing; hence a great amount of redevelopment is being undertaken. However, due to its high levels of construction, Manchester’s levels of air pollution are high. Furthermore, the infrastructure, even though sufficient for a city its size, won’t be sufficient when the borders of the city will be expanding. Solutions could be: the use of more sustainable construction methods and recycling/reusing materials, adding more cycling lanes, an eco-friendly transport system. Moreover, extending the roads’ network and discouraging private transport within the city center would also be beneficial.
