1. Oil and Gas are the dominant fossil fuels in the UK. 2. Oil is mostly used by Transport and Gas is mainly used by other sources (which includes domestic use) and electricity production. 3. In the UK, heating is a great requirement in the winter. It is often common for every flat to have their own gas powered boiler which runs continuously for extended periods of time. As a result of this I would try and implement a system for efficient district heating with wood pellets in the place of gas reducing the need for inefficient boilers and heavy gas use. Petrol and Diesel are also heavily used in personal and public transport including many trains which don't have electrified lines. A programme of rail electrification and Electric Vehicle adoption in particular by transport operators should be implemented with incentives, policies which restrict the sales of petrol and diesel powered vehicles. The development of a comprehensive and reliable charging network for these vehicles is essential which is currently one of the main barriers for their adoption. The widespread adoption of cycling in the cities should also be a priority with the implementation of safe cycling infrstructure.
