These are two pictures, the one on the left is of an residential area within the city. The 1:00pm temperature was around 44 degrees. The picture on the right is of an area in the suburbs, the temperature was 34 degrees at 2:30pm the same day. The difference of temperature could be attributed to the Urban Heat Islands effect in the urban area, while evaporation cooling due to plants resulted in a much lower temperature in the suburbs. One Of the measures to tackle the UHI effects that I would propose is to have a certain percentage of green area for each building plot or house in the urban area. This will increase the overall number of plants, trees, and green areas in the suburbs, thus aid to reduce the UHI effects. Any house which does not abide by this policy will be taxed heavily.
