1. The redevelopment of the Navigli area in Milan (Navigli being the name of the ancient canals which traditionally run through the city but which mostly disappeared nowadays due to massive urbanization) has been partially the result of a bottom-up process where local communities could express their opinions and interact with the local municipality, planners, engineers and other stakeholders during the redevelopment process. 2. I would involve residents though public meeting, remote and in-person surveys, and other relevant strategies, being careful in involving people from every age range, different backgrounds, etc. in order to get the most comprehensive picture as possible of what the local community expects from the improvement of the public spaces. 3. Among guidelines, I would first think about the widest possible participation and involvement; besides, I think that an iterative dialogue between all the involved stakeholders would be necessary in order to make sure everyone is aware of the latest updates and make everyone feel part of the design process.
