The picture portrays one of the many piers scattered alla long the Lake of Como coasts, in this case in the scenic town of Bellagio. Infrastructure here plays an essential role in terms of sub-system as transportation network connecting the sides of the lake and cities and towns even several kilometers away one from each other on the lake and on some nearby rivers. This is a good example on how some traditional and old piers and infrastructural elements managed to adapt to the technological advancements of navigation, with more modern ferries like the one which can be seen in the background.
