FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 2: "Stocks and Flows"
Uploaded on 2020-07-18 by Lazaro Martínez
The most important stock and flow within Santa Cruz del Quiché is food. The horizontal growth of the city, lead to bring in most of the food consumed inside, from villages or small populations located in its hinterland. Eventually the food stays within the urban area, and later the generated waste is conduced to the municipal landfill located outside of the urban area. The second stock and flows is pollution, mainly of: air, visual, sound and waste. This is observed in the principal vehicular routes that cross the city towards neighboring communities. Due to traffic, these types of pollution remain in the streets for a considerable period of time, and subsequently move in the direction of the wind. Excepting the visual contamination that is presented to advertise products or services and saturate visibility. The third identified stock and flow was population density. Despite the restrictions of social distancing, a high density is observed in the areas of public space and in those dedicated to commerce, reason why they have a movement mainly between 6 am and 4 pm in the city’s center. As one advances towards the perimeter, the population density decreases.
