In olden days locally available materials were used for construction of buildings. Materials like straw, bamboo, clay, bricks which were available in the nearby premises minimized the construction and transportation costs and made the maintenance easier. But now a days the case is much different. Materials from different countries are used worldwide. Italian marbles and quality stones from India are examples of this. In present scenario the new built houses contains atleast one construction material which is imported from another countries. The major change can be seen in the use of sanitary wares. In most of the India’s newly built houses European toilet wares are used instead of Indian. The same is happening with food materials. Fruits like kiwi, strawberry, food items like pasta, cheese etc. are easily available now in local shops. Another example for stocks and flow is migrant workers. Migration stocks are the numbers of migrants residing in a country and migration flows are the number of migrants entering or leaving a country or region. Rapid urbanization leads to increase in migration flows. Stocks and flows affect the progress and existence of a city. It leads to the evolution of new cultures and lifestyles in the city.
