Step 01: list the five most livable cities that you know, based on your own experience and judgment, placing the most livable city at the top of the list. First I have to precise that the cities I will list are all situated in Algeria because they are the only ones where I lived so I could have a personal judgment on it. 1. Algiers 2. Bejaia 3.Tizi-Ouzou 4.Bordj Bou Arreridj 5.Tamanrasset Step 02: Describe in your own words five characteristics that according to your opinion make a city livable. Order them placing the most important at the top of the list. 1. Political stability. 2. Justice and public governance: that greatly influences some characteristics of the city like safety, public services, social conditions, etc... 3. Business conditions: in my opinion, that do not only includes opportunities, banking services, or legislation, but also availability of infrastructures and equipments, an efficient public transport network and international connectivity. 4. Health. 5. Recreation areas and valorization of natural environment. Step 03: Describe the status of your own city in terms of the five characteristics that you listed above. Propose how your city should/ could be transformed in relation of these characteristics in order to be more sustainable. I live in Tizi-Ouzou, Algeria, in terms of political stability there were eventful periods like the 80s with cultural and identity claims, and the 90s with terrorism, but I see that the town lives better days now, however, in the field of justice and public governance I think my country still has huge steps to cross, citizen rights should be greatly improved. For the business conditions, some efforts are done but still not enough, there should be better Banking services, a dense road network, and a more fluid and varied transportation, in addition to the land problem that must be solved. Health conditions are adequate, thanks to the availability of sanitary conditions like sewerage networks, water supply, waste collection, school health, etc..., and thanks to free health care in public institutions, but many citizens complain their bureaucracy and mismanagement so improving the management of these equipments will be very benefic to the livability of the city. finally and about recreation areas and valorization of natural environment, there are very few gardens that are the legacy of the colonial period, the new part of the city only contains the university, residential buildings with shops at the ground floor and some public equipments, I think the forest named Harouza, that is in the north of the city must be considered in the city planning.
