Which are the main UHI effects that you can identify in your area? This is the city of Vichy, France. First one is inside the city. There are streets lined with buildings which could reflect solar radiation. However, streets are also lined with trees which cools them. As you can see, there is activity such as cars which contribute to the heat. The second one is an open green area a few hundred meters away just outside the city. It is open, there are no buildings, no heat providing activity, and plenty of trees to provide shade. As a result, the temperature feels higher in the city. Which are the measures you would propose? This is specific to the part of Vichy where the first photo has been taken. It is next to a crossroad that creates a lot of traffic, thus having cars running with their engines on. A new design of the drivable ways or the addition of a second bridge to cross the river would lighten traffic and reduce UHI. Is UHI effect concerning policy making in your area? Not to my knowledge. However, given the vast amount of trees planted I imagine it is considered.
