1.Dominant fossil fuels used in Chile are oil imports and oil product imports. 2.Mainly used for Transport and Industry. 3.Chile could benefit much better from its geographical characteristics to implement different local and environmental friendly energy systems. In the northern part I would extend the already existing solar power plants. Along the coast I would build wind power farms (in areas which are not habitats for birds) and invest in the research in tidal power. In the Andes I would reinforce hydropower and geothermal power thanks to its rivers and volcanic activities. Today the main energy consumption occurs in road transport. To decrease the energy demand, I would implement a more sustainable transport system based on a rail system using electricity generated from renewable energies on the country scale. On the local scale I would invest in bike lanes and improve the public transport system. I would reinforce the decentralisation of the country as well as local production and consumption which would decrease transport of goods and people crossing the whole country.I would also improve insulation of houses and construction policies in general, in order to decrease energy demand in cooling and heating.
