According to my perspective the ranking from top would be- Vancouver, Vienna, Zurich, Tokyo, Singapore city. The 5 characteristics that make city most livable from top would be- safety, environment, culture, job opportunities and infrastructure. When taking into account the characteristics of a livable city and comparing it with the context of Alleppey , it deduces the extent to which the city is livable. The city is not safe for strolls in night and at daytime you are welcomed by indulging eyes. The city is blessed with a good environment with sea breezes and large trees but the urban sprawl is destroying the identity of the city. Alleppey is the melting pot of various cultures, cuisines, and thoughts. The city provides lots of job opportunities in formal and informal sectors especially in tourism. The physical infrastructure of the city is not able to meet the needs of its people as a whole (Traffic issues, lack of water supply etc.). Measures to make city livable are by bringing in -activities that makes it active throughout the day, Framing planning regulations on the uncontrolled development and by providing better infrastructure and transportation services.
