I live in Ecuador, South America. A country in the equatorial line. Currently 36.18% people live in Rural Areas while the rest live in suburban and urban areas. Because it is a tropical country, it just brings two seasons which do not vary as much during throughout the year. El Nino current and Humboldt are the main reasons of drastic climate change in the country. Many eco-friendly shopping center and communal areas around my city are planned to be done within the next decade. Sanitary cleansing of areas around my city as well as a local law where architecture (future and current buildings) will have to implement sustainable and ecofriendly techniques in order to reduce UHI and support the planet. Unfortunately, I do not know about policies that regard UHI effect in my area, though there are current policies on eco-friendly and sustainability measurements that are being taken into action around my city.
