The hotel shown in the picture stands on the banks of the Vembanadu kayal or lake, Alleppey in Kerala. The materials used in the construction of the building are reinforced concrete, hollow blocks and glass. The production of these raw materials happens at a lower rate in Kerala due to the unavailability of the resources in this region. Hence the state depends upon other states in India for these building materials. The Indian economy is a self sufficient economy, even though the production is not uniform throughout the country. The steel that is used in reinforcement is being manufactured within India but there is a steady increase in import of steel from China and Korea due to the extant policy. Similarly, India ranks second in cement production in global scale and exports cement to other developing countries. India along with export of glass does import glass from about 70 countries across the world. China is the top import partner since it imports about 47% of the total glass import. China, United States, Germany, Malaysia and Indonesia are the top glass import partners of India.
