1. Completed 2. I live in Vijayawada which is already a hot region where temperatures go upto 49 C during peak summer time. But a study by a team of experts in the to be capital region Amaravati and its surroundings Vijayawada and Guntur. This study has lead to to the following findings:*Vijayawada and Guntur have already become the urban heat islands *Land Surface Temperature (LST) is 10 to 12 degree Celsius more than air temperature in the region which is very high. *Low temperature was observed in water bodies, wet lands, forests, dense tree-clad areas and agricultural land in the suburbs. *The main reason for this increase in temperatures occur due to conversion of green lands(absorbers) into concrete, barren land(insulators). *Causes discomfort to city dwellers and increasing power consumption for increased cooling. Increase in heat waves also result in rise of death toll, particularly the aged. 3.Measures to reduce the UHI effect: *As individuals improve the micro-climate of our individual homes by planting trees, terrace gardens or white roofs and energy efficient lifestyles.Urban-plans that maintains balance between the built -up and vegetation cover in the cities. 4. UHI do not affect the policy making in our area right now.
