On the left is the countryside next to Berlin. Flat wide open fields. Air could circulate without less disturbance. On the right hand side a typical east Berlin residential area - with big building blocks. To reduce massive heat island effects a lot trees and small green spaces are placed in the building canyons. Further there is the Step concept of climate adaption in Berlin, which e.g. tries to empower the greening of roofs and facades to smooth heat island effects and the risk of flash flood. Especially on this big residential blocks with flat roof greening is somehow easy to apply without conflicting other uses.
