2. There are official UHI measurements in only three major german Cities so far: Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich. The max difference between city and the nearby rural areas varies from 0.4 to 2.9 Kelvin so the differences are much smaller then in the USA. The pictures show the riverside of Bonn city with the only two skyscrapers and the rural area between Bonn and Cologne. You see that the urban city is not packed with buildings and infrastructure like many example cities in this course. So I bet thats one of the reasons why the UHI problem is not as crucial in Germany. 3. There’s not much to propose since the problem ist not as big as in other parts of the world. But I see a general trend to not buy cars and use public transport, bikes, carsharing or to just walk. Also the summer temperatures are not so high that everybody has air conditioning. To reduce heating in winter all new buildings get modern isolation. 4. The City and main companies like DHL are trying to reduce carbon emission by testing electric busses and parcel vans. Also there is a discussion about environmental zones where not all diesel cars are allowed to operate.
