The mode of transportation depends on two factors. The longer route is only the backup route if I miss the fast train from Bonn to Cologne. The walk/bike vs. tram/bus decision depends mostly on weather conditions and thus on getting dry to the office. So that's kind of relevant for happiness. I generally prefer walking to see what's going on in the city but sometimes, when in a hurry, I hop on one of the many busses or trams passing by.
