Arch. Venegas Soriano Lima, Perú Lima is a desert with a decreasing number of valleys generated -for centuries- from the rivers born in the highlands. Pre-Colombine cultures used native renewvable resources as as rock, mud, caña, water, etc. to create construction materials such as adobe, quincha and tapial. As population grew, also the necesity of buildings to shelter people/other uses increased. This determined that "vernacular" technology was left aside to open the road towards new technologies with other capabilities. Also, that those "vernacular" technologies were never studied in depth. That´s why steel, bricks (different types) and glass are the most common materials nowadays.
