top 1: List the five most livable cities that you know, based on your own experience and judgment, placing the most liveable city at the top of the list. Stockholm Auckland Sydney Vancouver Helsinki Step 2: Describe in your own words five characteristics that according to your opinion make a city liveable. Order them placing the most important at the top of the list. 1. Access to Service Quality Infrastructure (water, waste, energy) 2. Access to Quality Public transport 3. Strength of dynamic/progressive jobs and economy 4. Access to open space and culture 5. Access to health and social services Step 3: Describe the status of your own city in terms of the five characteristics that you listed above. Propose how your city should/could be transformed in relation to these characteristics in order to be more sustainable. My city is Manila. Water and power access is good due to privatization, however not really affordable for many. Although public transport has improved, it is still very poor and crowded, lacking efficiency and service quality. Jobs and economy are improving, particularly in the tech and services sector. There is virtually no open space, and access to health and social services is poor for the majority of people here. Major area for improvement - is with large scale public transport system along defined commercial and residential corridors, improving efficiency. These can be combined with better provision of social infrastructure to the poorer areas. Combined with smart clustering and facilitation of growth nodes along those routes, take advantage of a educated, dynamic and English speaking population to build jobs and industries that are future proof.Implement better city planning and redevelopment to make living areas more habitable through infill development, land sharing and land pooling programs.
