1. Check the temperature differences in US cities As it is obvious in US cities temperature in surrounding area is lower than urban area, for instance in Albuquerque the average temperature is lower by 6 degrees in centigrade. 2. Which are the main UHI effects that you can identify in your area? I have taken picture number one from my Vicinity Fatemi from the top of our roof (this prominent building is ministry of interior). It is so easy to compare, in countryside (Lavasan to be exact) we have more nature life like trees and lakes but in urban areas –picture number 2- we have more tall building and less trees. In countryside houses are located far away from each other, there is no specific alley in between them. Third factor is about the location of Lavasan (countryside) and Tehran (urban area). They are both located in northern hemisphere but Lavasan is located upper than Tehran so the average temperature is lower. 3. Which are the measures you would propose? I would definitely change the urban formation, as we reviewed in the lecture. Cubes are the best formation for reducing the temperature, exactly like what we have in Spain- Barcelona. Wind flow and radiation effect have been tested in this formation and it has been said that this is the most effective option. 4. Is UHI effect concerning policy making in your area? Actually in Tehran we have 5 main urban heat island. The policy which has been passed to reduce this amount of heat is as follow: our municipality has accepted the high raised building , as we all know height of the building can easily diminished the effect of UHI; besides, many rules have been passed to lowered the width of alley and street as far as possible.
