2.I live in Beirut which is very urbanized and lacks greatly on green areas. The increased need for housing and infrastructure due a continuous rise in the number of people coming to live in the city, the effect of heat island is felt more and more each day. With the rise of population, there is a rise in the temperature. The average temperature on a summer day in Beirut is 26C but this is due to the location of Beirut next to the Mediterranean sea which cools down the temperature but increases humidity. How ever the average temperature in a rural area on a summer day in Lebanon would be around 20C. 3.The measures I would take to create a more livable climate in my city would be providing public transport to reduce the use of private polluting cars, planting more trees and creating more green areas in the city, providing alternative materials for roads and use sunlight reflective materials for building roofs or green roofs, creating mixed use areas combining living/working and playing to reduce the need of car trips. 4. Unfortunately there are very few planned policy to reduce the UHI effect in my city.
