As a rapidly developing city with a hot climate, I feel Da Nang has a large Urban Heat Island problem. Construction and development is mostly private and ad hoc. The lifespan of buildings is sometimes only a few years. A huge difference is noticeable between well planted and shaded streets and those that are not. Perhaps an app that maps hot streets, and provides a feedback between individuals and authorities can facilitate an improvement on this issue. The positive effect of planted streets can be visible to an individual and community. They may also have access to the cities planned development. If the benefits are clear and direct (better quality of neighbourhood life, reduced cooling costs, better foot traffic and business) perhaps neighbouhood crowd funding can fund planting and improvements, according to the city authority best practice and recommendations. This way streets and neighbourhoods can be improved faster than by central authority alone and 'on the ground' knowledge, such as current construction and renovations can be accounted for.
