This topic is very relevant in almost every city in the world. There all always neighborhoods where people feel less safe than in other neighborhoods. This can be due to social-economic situations, but this also has to do with the physical environment. Safety can be observed by citizens for example by reporting anti-social behaviour like trash, vandalism, alcoholism, racism and graffiti. Even the surroundings can be made more suitable for pedestrians by making the footpaths artificially lit.
