This photo was taken on my trip to Rio de Janeiro last year. The selection of materials was made based on environmental criteria, giving preference to those that contain recycled components, low toxicity, high durability and are produced near the site, as a way to minimize the emission of greenhouse gases. The design essentially uses concrete as a raw material, capable of shaping its curved and/or sloping elements, and supporting the metal structure of the roof. The operable roof elements have an environmental purpose as they can open and close to suit the angle of the sun. Depending on the time of day, the exterior appearance of the building will change for greater solar energy uptake. Natural light and ventilation are provided by the use of large glass frames on the main and rear facades and triangular frames on the side faces.
