Maybe there is no more important MATERIAL for the construction of a building than CAPITAL. It is truth that traditional locally made construction materials have given way to more industrialised, modular and Western ones like steel, concrete and glass across the developing world. Curtain wall facades and international style box like towers have spread as symbols of progress and wealth no matter the location, weather and local needs of its people. However, despite free trade deals or free movement areas for people like the EU, the material that more easily, quickly and efficiently moves from one place to another is CAPITAL. Capital moves through the world without almost any barrier and always looks for places where the return on the investment made is high or the security of the investment is better than in their countries of origin. These photos were made by me last year near in London. Old low rise brick houses are being tore down to build glass towers of offices and high end residences which Londoners cannot afford. These buildings main function is as a lock box for capital because bank deposits or the stock market are less reliable places to store wealth.
