Globalization in construction is apparent. New materials are making their way into construction options. For example, materials not found in Canada are being applied in residential housing such as stone from other countries, woods from other regions (ironwood), and construction and landscaping designs from other parts of the world are being included in current construction. Religious and cultural centres and buildings also have brought craftsmen and specialists from other parts of the world to work on buildings in Canada, with skills and methods not readily available in Canada. Best practices in engineering and architecture are also having an effect, such as with the crystal design applied to the historic Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto Ontario.
